They’ve shared bills with Echosmith and The Offspring, and have charted in the Top 40 in their home-base of Austria, and now DAWA is ready to let us into their part of the world that includes street concerts, where is where the foursome connected a few years ago. We talked about that, and how their latest, Put It Away Remixes came about.

Kendra: Is it common to meet your new best friends at a street concert in Austria?

Babsi: Well, musicians “meet” while they’re making music. Why not meeting physically at a concert too?

Oama: Definitely! That can happen again and again – and it does. It’s likely to meet friends at a concert, due to the limited amount of big venues in Austria! So whenever there is a big concert or there are some special international artists in town, you will most likely bump into some friends.

Laura: And when you get to know each other at a concert, you have at least one thing in common: the same good taste in music. Which is a big point!

Kendra: What exactly are street concerts by the way?

Babsi: Concerts in the street, for new people. In our case, it was a concert at a street music festival, with a stage and everything.

Oama: Concerts played on the street similar to busking, but official and better organised. Good to get known by some new people. In our case, it was a concert at a street music festival

Kendra: Being an even four, do you find that everything always seems to balance out in the studio and onstage?

Babsi: It is the balance that makes us discuss sometimes a bit more, and sometimes a bit less. I guess you can compare it to a family discussion, in the end there is always a solution, we all can live with 😉

Laura: We are four very different types of characters, so everyone adds his “special” fortitude to the group. This diversity is a benefit for us, it leads to discussions and creates balance.

Kendra: Whose decision was it to team up with CIO when it came time to release Put It Away Remixes?

Babsi: As he used to be our Label Brother, we know CIO for a long time now. He offered to do a remix and we think he did a great job, and so it was all clear to release it.

Laura: We asked a couple of friends to remix our latest single “Put it Away”. It’s always fun to hear a totally new version of one of our songs.

Kendra: When it comes to the remixes, will those be incorporated into the live shows?

Babsi: Well, unfortunately not. Maybe if we would play a festival with one of them. But I guess that’s not gonna happen this summer.

Laura: And I’m not sure if that would fit perfectly. But maybe we crush into a gig of CIO or Stefan Seelenwald. That would make more sense…

Dawa have been playing live all summer and continue to add to their list of tour dates. You just have to keep tabs on them via their site and Facebook. On the books so far for the fall and winter is a show at the Concert Hall in Vienna on December 13. If you’re not in the area, then you can go ahead and just pick up Put It Away Remixes, out now!
